TownGreen is a climate-based nonprofit serving Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea.

our purpose
As a coastal community, Cape Ann is vulnerable to sea level rise, storm surge, and other threats associated with climate change, like drought, extreme heat, and woodland fires.
Our mission on Cape Ann is to build climate resilience by offering community-specific climate and preparedness education, hands-on learning opportunities, a regional working group, and volunteer-led advisory groups.
Climate impacts are already here.
Now what?
The more we learn about climate impacts, the more we understand that being prepared is one of the most important steps we can take. So what does this look like? And what is TownGreen’s role?
TownGreen Focus Areas

Cape Ann MARCH
TownGreen convenes and facilitates a working group focused on Cape Ann climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. This group brings together community stakeholders to collaborate on projects that address the impacts of climate change on our local ecosystems, neighborhoods, and the places we love.

Climate Awareness Education
TownGreen offers a variety of climate awareness and preparedness education programs, including webinars, in-person workshops, field trips, speaker series, and a youth climate leadership program, to educate and engage the Cape Ann community on climate change impacts and solutions.

Participatory Science Projects
TownGreen’s Participatory Science projects are headed up by John Cigliano. Volunteers will be trained to collect data at Good Harbor Marsh and Wingaersheek Beach Marsh.

Community Engagement Services
TownGreen offers community engagement services to municipalities, organizations, and businesses, specializing in climate-related topics. We design, implement, and facilitate programs, as well as handle outreach, promotion, and post-program reporting.
