Overview
TownGreen is hiring a Community Organizer/Engagement Coordinator to help it increase outreach and programming efforts for two new initiatives:
- The Neighborhood Resiliency Project provides emergency preparedness education and go-bags for Cape Ann residents, starting with priority populations in Gloucester, while also providing education across Cape Ann communities.
- Cape Ann MARCH convenes a regional municipal working group that includes the municipalities of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Ipswich, as well as Cape Ann community-based organizations, academic institutions, and community leaders.
About the Position
TownGreen is seeking a part-time multilingual Community Organizer/Engagement Coordinator (English/Spanish/Portuguese) to support community organizing and engagement, event planning and scheduling, and program delivery. This is a part-time position reporting to the Executive Director.
The Community Organizer/Engagement Coordinator is a key position in TownGreen’s community engagement efforts. Are you eager to assist community members who do not speak English in learning more about how to stay safe in an emergency? Are you familiar with working with community groups, local partners, and volunteers to encourage participation in local programs? We are looking for candidates who are invested in fostering meaningful community engagement through inclusive, hands-on activities, one-on-one interactions, public events, and meetings.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Organize, schedule, attend, lead, and deliver culturally-relevant community/neighborhood engagement programming, with a special focus on the inclusion of groups that have been underrepresented and need language access
- Ensure diverse and equitable community representation and participation in activities
- Contribute to the development of creative programmingManage outreach efforts, build awareness, and increase trust and resident participation
- Manage contractors and volunteers
- Identify advocacy and organizing opportunities
- Network with other groups that organize residents and provide services
- Coordinate logistical and administrative needs for new initiatives
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and drop-in sessions for residents to learn about emergency preparedness
- Develop and maintain authentic relationships with community-based organizations, municipal government partners, and local leaders across the region
- Develop resident/neighborhood leaders/liaisons through one-on-ones and other forms of community engagement
- Maintain updated statistics about resident involvement
- Develop and track program evaluation to measure, improve, and monitor goals, outcomes, progress, and impacts
- Contribute to reports and grant writing activities
Evening events, occasional weekend events, and local travel are a responsibility for this position. This position is hybrid, and applicants must reside within commuting distance to Gloucester, MA.
Compensation: Salary range is $37.50/hour or $3,000/month, depending on qualifications and experience. Employee benefits include excellent paid time-off benefits and hybrid work availability. Responsibilities will be customized for a part-time position of 20 hours/week.

Qualifications
- Multilingual in English/Spanish/Portuguese with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in community engagement, organizing, outreach, partnerships, communications, environmental or social justice, or another relevant field
- Experience developing and/or managing community-based programs or initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 2+ years of professional experience OR be a non-degreed candidate with equivalent skills and 3+ years of work experience
- Experience working in multi-cultural, inclusive settings
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to balance competing priorities, deadlines, and details
- Experience in undertaking assigned work in a self-directed manner with the capacity for innovation, self-learning, and achieving goals promptly
- Be a self-starter, work independently, and value collaboration
- Reliable and able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends
- Be a values-oriented individual who shares our values of kindness, respect, inclusion, authenticity, fun, and collaboration
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and online/digital platforms

- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
- Project management skills, including planning and evaluation
- Commitment to advancing environmental, social, language, and disability justice through outreach and engagement
- Experience with mobilizing people from diverse populations in a variety of settings, including communities of color, different ethnic populations, a variety of incomes, ages, and differing levels of educational attainment
- Experience building and maintaining partnerships with local government, community-based or advocacy organizations, and community members

TownGreen is hiring Spanish and Portuguese-speaking freelancers to deliver one-on-one and small-group training sessions on household emergency preparedness and emergency go-bags to individuals and groups who speak primarily English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The ideal applicant will be able to work a flexible schedule. Sessions include two-hour drop-in sessions, one-hour small-group workshops, and event activities at Readiness Roadshows. Ideal candidates should be Gloucester or Cape Ann-based, or be able to commute and have access to transportation. Compensation is $37.50/hour.
